Road Closure

RR 121 will be closed from July 21-31, 2026, weather permitting. Access will remain open for all landowners along RR 121. Traffic will be temporarily detoured around the closure using TWP 102 and RR 122/120 during this time.

Proposed Highway and Traffic Safety Bylaw - Public Consultation

A drafted Highway and Traffic Safety Bylaw was presented to the County of Forty Mile No. 8 Council on June 24th, 2026, who passed it through First Reading. The public now has an opportunity to review the draft and provide comments.

It can be found here.

The proposed bylaw addresses issues relating to the regulation of traffic, the use of road allowances (including ditches), parking, speed limits, weight and dimension restrictions, off-highway vehicle access, damage to roads, signs, obstructions, permits, the responsibility of property owners, and associated offences and penalties.

The drafted bylaw and several schedules can be viewed through this link HERE. Interested or concerned parties may provide comment by sending an email to info@fortymile.ab.ca or by mail to County of Forty Mile No. 8, Box 160, Foremost, AB, Canada, T0K 0X0. Submissions must be received at the County office no later than 11:59 pm on July 31, 2026 and clearly reference the draft Highway and Traffic Safety Bylaw. For clarification or questions relating to this draft bylaw or the processes, please email enforcement@fortymile.ab.ca .

Please mark your calendars for our next meeting on March 12th. Guest speakers will be presenting on Drones and the regulations and use of them in rural areas. Some of you may have seen drones around the area and overhead, and want to learn more. As always, this is a free meeting and is open to the public.

A full agenda will be published on the website closer to the date. Memberships will be available for purchase, along with property signage displaying the Rural Crime Watch program logos.

The meeting will be held in the Sierra Room at the Cypress Centre on March 12th at 7pm.

Municipal Agriculture Disasters

Things to know about Municipal Agriculture Disaster Declarations.

A common misperception is that a municipal declaration of an agricultural disaster will influence a provincial declaration or access to funding supports. This is simply not the case. Municipal declarations bring awareness to an issue in a specific area of the province, but they do not trigger a provincial declaration or access to any funding to support the issue.

A municipality does not need to declare an Agriculture Disaster for their farmers to participate in any resulting federal or provincial programs triggered by extreme weather events like drought or excessive moisture.
